HS Grenda Middle School is a new school that will house 600 students in 20 classrooms, designed with 21st century learning principles. The school will be three storeys high, with open space classrooms and garage-like shutters that connect classrooms to create larger learning spaces, and glass windows connecting the gymnasium to the outdoors. The school will be broken into separate communities, retaining a traditional learning environment. The design also incorporates a cafeteria, gymnasium, drama and home economics rooms, and a living wall. The building will be heated and cooled using geothermal technology. Built on a former 18-acre golf course, CHPA worked to minimize the structure’s footprint to maximize the surrounding greenspace.
