The new RCMP gun range facility became a priory project as the growing surrounding neighborhood of Garrison Crossing and adjacent UFV campus portrayed their concerns with the loud sounds of gunfire from the existing open air fabric structure. The state of the art indoor complex provides two, sixteen lanes, fifty meter ranges for use by the RCMP that will alleviate the acoustical concerns with the neighborhood.
Specialist consultants were included throughout the design to address the official requirements of the range layout, the large mechanical requirements for interior pollutants, the interior sound quality and the separation of both gunfire and mechanical noises from the interior to the surrounding neighborhood.
The exterior façade concept includes the official RCMP colours, which add to the existing variety of vibrant colours found through Garrison Crossing and the UFV educational campus. Sections of panels sit proud of the façade with a variety of joint treatments to provide subtle shadow lines along the exterior.
